International Workshop on Water & History with the subject: “How should we learn from water and history for sustainable development?” was held at Tokyo Development Learning Center of the World Bank (Chiyoda ward, Tokyo) from Dec 13 to Dec 14.

The workshop was co-hosted by the Japanese government, UNSGAB (United Nations Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Water & Sanitation) and the World Bank Tokyo Office, and JWA is also involved in organizing it. About 80 people including experts on water and history around the world participated to deliver lectures or present panel discussions.

Kenyu Komura, the President of JWA, made the opening speech and addressed the intent to promote IWRM (Integrated Water Resources Management) through NARBO (Network of Asian River Basin Organizations) for ensuring water security by sharing experience and information on IWRM in member organizations and each region.

His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince, an honorary President of UNSGAB, participated in the workshop on Dec 13 and listened earnestly to the lectures delivered by distinguished speakers.

At the World Bank Tokyo Office Public Information Center (PIC Tokyo), a picture panel exhibition of Aichi Canal Project, which was supported to construct by the loan from the World Bank and have been managed by JWA for 50 years, was held from Dec 5 to Dec 22 by PIC Tokyo and JWA.
