April 18, 2016

To support the affected areas of the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquakes, JWA is mobilizing movable water purification units for the supply of water in Nishihara Mura, Aso-Gun, Kumamoto Prefecture. In the evening of April 18, seven staff members and three vehicles left Tone Canal Management and Construction Office in Gyoda City of Saitama Prefecture, where the units were kept. The water purification units dispatched have the capacity to purify water of 50 m3 per day, which enables us to supply drinking water for approx.16,000 people. This support activity was requested from Japan Water Works Association to Kyusyu Regional Office, JWA. At 12:30 on April 18, “Headquarters for Disaster Countermeasures” was established at the headquarters of JWA prior to the dispatch.
