Tour of Arima Tunnel excavation site of Gunma Canal

     Gunma Canal, located along the northwestern edge of the Kanto Plain, is one of the very important facilities to provide one million residents and 6,300 ha of farmland in 8 municipalities of central part of Gunma Prefecture with domestic water and irrigational water. Since some forty years have passed after its water conveyance operation start, it was revealed that aging deterioration was in progress at Arima Tunnel of Haruna Main canal. To respond to this problem, Gunma Canal Emergency Reconstruction Project started in 2014 and currently parallel waterway construction work is underway with a shield machine. To raise awareness of the importance of the Gunma Canal and this facility widely among local residents, including school children and interested persons, Japan Water Agency is going to have the tour of the Arima Tunnel parallel waterway construction site, as follows:
Date and time: December 18, 2016
                          From 10:30 to 12:00 and from 13:30 to 15:30

Place: 1190 Kaminoda, Yoshioka Town, kitagunma-gun, Gunma Prefecture
Activity: Visit to Arima Tunnel parallel waterway construction site, including a 100m walk in a part of Arima Tunnel
Participation fee: Free of charge
Eligibility: elementary school children or older
