Young Salmon Stocking at Tone Barrage by Elementary School Students

Tone Canal Management and Construction Offfice of Japan Water Agency is going to hold
a salmon fry stocking and clean-up activity with Otahigashi Elementary School students of Gyoda City under the cooperation of Gyoda Municipal Office on Wednesday, 14 February, 2018.
At the Tone Barrage located in the middle reaches of Tone River in between Gyoda City, Saitama Prefecture and Chiyoda Town, Gunma Prefecture, we have been conducting salmon run-ups count. Last year the run-ups reached about 3,000 fishes. This salmon run-up is the result of earnest and continuous effort of local community people to stock with salmon fry after careful nurturing of them. Return of salmon to their birthplace is the natural sign of rebirth of life.
This event will provide an opportunity for the local community and JWA to work together toward the promotion of natural recycling of life. As this activity should be continued in the future, coordinated work with local school children will result in a chain work of passing the baton toward the future.
