The initial dam upgrading of Japan Water Agency
Sameura Dam The project plan for upgrading the Sameura Dam has been officially approved by the minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (=MLIT). Japan Water Agency (=JWA) established Sameura Dam Upgrading Project Office on 1 April and will start a new project based on the plan. This project is to strengthen flood control function of Samerura Dam by increasing the flood control capacity after introducing the flood control release method and transferring reservoir capacity, and extending facility for enhancing discharge capacity at the time of flood, etc.
Upon implementation of the project, we will properly implement the management of Sameura Dam under operation and coordinate efforts with relevant organizations and bodies, while striving to implement the project in a planned and appropriate manner.
Sameura Dam has the biggest storage in Shikoku region, and is also known as the "Life of Shikoku", which has been managed by JWA since 1970. It was originally built for flood control of the Yoshino River, and for water use of other four rivers in Shikoku region. This multipurpose dam is taking a core role in the comprehensive development of the Yoshino River basin.
