"Coordination Agreement on Mutual Support Activities at the Time of Disaster"

On 7 December, 2018, the contract signing ceremony for "Coordination Agreement on Mutual Support Activities at the Time of Disaster" was held at the Japan Water Works Association (JWWA), Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo between JWWA and JWA (Japan Water Agency).
Once an earthquake, storm and flood damage, drought, or any other disaster occurs, JWWA needs to take various back-up activities so that their official members of water supplies would work quickly to secure the drinking water for people and domestic water sources, and put back all the water works facilities to the normal working condition and recover from those damages as early as possible. This agreement aims at establishing framework to conduct various support activities for the quick recovery from such damages, making full use of technical capabilities and physical resources of JWA upon request from JWWA.

Prior to the signing, the representatives of both parties made the following remarks:
Mr. Ei Yoshida, Executive Director, JWWA:
"We strongly feel secured because the establishment of JWA's organized support system at the time of disaster as well as its backed-up power based on superb engineering capabilities will be a great help for us to perform various support activities."
Mr. Kenji Kanao, President, JWA:
"As this agreement enables both of us to grasp the conditions of water supplies who are suffering from the disaster on site on an extensive basis, we expect that more effective and efficient support can be materialized promptly."
