Construction Site Tour of Koishiwaragawa Dam is to be held twice on Saturdays in January 201925 December, 2018

The Japan Water Agency is now constructing Koishiwaragawa Dam in Asakura City, Fukuoka Prefecture, in Kyushu. Its dam height is going to be 139m, the highest in Kyushu when completed. Huge machines are moving around at the construction site. So the site tour will provide you with a very rare chance to watch such construction site with your own eyes. In November 2018, the dam site celebrated its tour participants reaching 1000. In January next year, four tours (twice each day) are to be planned on 12 and 26 in January. If you are interested in this tour, please make your reservations as soon as possible. The reception of your reservation is only accepted on weekdays from 9:00 to 16:00. Please be reminded that the reservation reception, briefing in advance of the tour, and the guided tour are all conducted in Japanese only.

The one who wants to join this tour needs to contact the office and check the availability.
All the participants need to register their attendance with their names, ages, contact phone numbers and the addresses (For insurance purpose).

A child of less than 6 years old could be refrained from a tour. Please check it at the time of your reservation.

In case when the weather condition is not good on the date of the tour, including a heavy rain, strong winds, or heavy snow, it could be cancelled. Please accept our apologies in such a case.

Please put on sport shoes, walking shoes, etc. so that you feel easy to walk on the site ground. Please also read in advance all the precautions mentioned on the separate sheet.
Tour route
No. 1 Bridge-Observatory on the dam's crest on the left bank-dam's embankment (The tour will start from the office and the mini-bus will take the participants to the dam construction site.)

Safety Precautions for the Construction Site Tour

  1. Please come in easy-to-move and easy-to-clean clothes. Long-sleeved clothes, long pants, sport shoes (sneakers), back-packs, and cotton work gloves are recommended. Please refrain from wearing skirt, sandals, and heels. Please bring in an umbrella with you in case of possible rain.
  2. At the construction site, please be sure to wear a helmet we provide for your safety. Those who refuse to wear them are not allowed to go to the construction site.
  3. In summer, temperature and humidity are likely to increase. So please bring with you a bottled drink and candies to prevent yourself to suffer from heatstroke. In winter, be ready for the coldness. Please advise the staff immediately when you feel bad during the tour.
  4. The tour site tends to be bumpy and there are many spots where the ground is not flat. The dangerous area is marked and designated. Please stay away from those spots for your own safety.
  5. Please do not run, climb the elevated place, jump from the elevated place, slide down slope, hang from the no-entry fence/bars, or lean forward from the cliff/elevated place.
  6. You can take pictures and/or videos on the tour site. But there are some areas that the staff asks you not to do so from the safety reasons. Please refrain from taking photos in such an occasion. Please refrain from using a selfie stick in the narrow space.
