Embankment work at Koishiwaragawa Dam has reached the crest of the dam! 24 September, 2019

On July 11, 2019, the embankment work(*1) at Koishiwarakawa Dam, located in between Asakura City and Toho Village of Fukuoka Prefecture, came to the crest(*2) of the dam body. The type of dam is "rockfill dam" which is made of sand, gravel, and crushed rocks. This dam is a multi-purpose dam, mainly used for flood control and water utilization. When the embankment work completes, it will become the tallest dam in Kyushu Island with its dam height to become 139m. From now on the finishing touches will be made on the embankment work, then other works, including the spillway construction, will be carried out. The entire construction process is scheduled to complete in March 2020.
*1 Embankment work is the construction process of dam body, using sand, gravel, and rocks.
*2 Crest is the highest part of a dam.
