- Storing water at dam reservoirs for water supply -

The necessity of various technologies

JWA, which was transformed from its predecessor WARDEC in September 2004, has been engaged in construction and management of dams and canals over the past 40 years to supply water to water users. So far, 39 dams, approx. 1,000 km-long main canals were developed by JWA, through which water is supplied to users for drinking (for 64 million people), irrigation and industrial use in the basins of seven major river systems, namely, Tone, Ara, Toyo, Kiso, Yodo, Yoshino and Chikugo River systems . To construct and manage dams and canals, specialized technologies are required in such fields as civil engineering, planning/designing, natural environment assessment and water quality, machine and electronic and telecommunication. This means that it is necessary to fully utilize these technologies individually, and manage all the technologies in a comprehensive way, and thereby, water is stored safely at dam reservoirs and provided water to the public. JWA’s major projects involve a large-scale construction and management of dams, canals, and some of them stretch through cities and to prefectures. In this respect, coordination and negotiation with stakeholders are vital. JWA, with its expertise in these fields, is determined to contribute to the society through water facility construction and management responding to social changes and requirements.
