Dam Card
*1 Dam cards:
Distribution of the dam cards started in 2007 at the dams the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Japan Water Agency manage, aiming at letting visitors know about the dams. The format of the cards is standardized across the nation, with the picture of the dam on the front and the type, reservoir capacity, technologies applied, and other important information on the reverse side. Nowadays, in addition to them, other dams managed by the prefectural government and electric power companies, etc. also provide dam cards at respective dam management offices and nearby facilities.
*2 Celebrating 30 years of the Emperor Akihito's reign:
Present Emperor Akihito's reign has marked 30 years along with "Heisei" Era (another way of naming the year applicable only in Japan, holding the same era as long as his reign lasts). The emperor is the symbol of the state and the unity of the people (as the Japanese Constitution so stipulates). As he has been standing so close by to the people, Japanese people sincerely celebrated the anniversary of his 30 years services.
