What is dam curry and rice?

A dam curry and rice dish, as its name stands, is a dish depicting the characteristic of the dam. Rice symbolizes the dam body; curry roux symbolizes the dam reservoir. The dam curry and rice originated from the curry and rice served at the cafeteria near Kurobe Dam and the one created by a dam enthusiast in Tokyo. The dam curry and rice started getting popularity since 2009 and has gradually spread since then. Nowadays, the varieties of dam curry and rice dishes are served at many restaurants and cafeterias near the dams across Japan. As for dam management by the Japan Water Agency, "Minakami Dam Curry and Rice" was served at the restaurants in Minakami Town, Gunma Prefecture in 2009 as one of the attractions to revitalize the town.

A fried chicken symbolizes the dam office building, and plum-shaped carrot pieces imply the outlet gates. Red-colored flowing sauce symbolizes discharged water. A soft-boiled egg means the moon reflected on the dam reservoir surface.

[3]Nunome Dam Curry and RiceCafé "Bran Port"

The dam curry and rice served there consists of roux, representing a reservoir and rice mound symbolizing dam body with two types of serials; one type:a white-colored regular rice and the other: 5 main serials (rice, wheat, foxtail millet, Japanese millet, and millet) of reddish brown colors. White rice part is considered a concrete gravity dam and 5 serials portion a rock-fill dam. Garnished vegetables and salad are the fresh picks from a farm field nearby.

[4]Shorenji Dam Curry and RiceCafé "Yuno Café"

Salad symbolizes fresh greens, cherry blossoms, and autumn leaves in Shorenji area. The variable thickness arch dam, the characteristic of Shorenji Dam, is shown by the shape of mounted rice. On the back of the dam, a monorail car named "Dolphin". A red monument is placed at its side. This is one of the authentic spicy chicken curry and rice dishes.

* Lake Syorenji Dessert Plate
At the Yuno Café, Lake Syorenji dessert plate is served. The plate symbolizes the reservoir and a miniature Shorenji Dam made by a 3D printer is placed on the plate. A place mat has a photo of Shorenji Lake on it. Use your imagination! You can come up with the idea that eating sweet staff on the plate implies the removal of sediment from the reservoir. Having the dessert after the curry and rice dish will be a most recommended choice.

Murou Dam Curry and Rice served at café "Kien" is a medicinal curry plate. As this medicinal curry contains crude drugs in addition to regular spices, our metabolic system can be highly activated to get ourselves in better physical condition. The lunch plates include the main curry and rice dish, a cup of soup, salad, and a side dish.

[6]Hinachi Dam Curry and RiceRoad Station "Ise-hon-kaido Mitsue" (Self-service restaurant "Uguisu")

Serving of "Hinachi Dam Curry and Rice" began on 24 February 2018 at the Road Station Ise-hon-kaido Mitsue, located at Mitsue Village, Nara Prefecture, 16km upstream of Hinachi Dam. The dish looks good and also tastes good using Koshihikari (high ranking) rice produced in Mitsue Village served with delicious fried venison. When you show the dam card of Hinachi Dam, which you can get when you visit the dam office, you will be offered a discount ticket for the hot spring "Himeshi no Yu" at the station.
